Set Design

In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the MFA in Scenic Design, University of Hawaii at Manoa.

THE JUDITH OF SHIMODA, 2010:

Photoshop-painted, Vectorworks-generated 3D computer model of set.

THE JUDITH OF SHIMODA, 2010:

English Language premier of Brecht's "lost" play-within-a-play. The design combines Western circus and rock concert theatricality with a Kabuki-influenced Japanese aesthetic.

THE JUDITH OF SHIMODA, 2010:

The 'half-curtain' of Brecht's epic theatre was here replaced with a flying wall of shoji panels that could be used as shadow screens. Silks and scaffolding allowed the actors to take their performances into vertical space.

THE JUDITH OF SHIMODA, 2010:

The silks begin the play as decoration, but are 'torn' down when the actor characters began taking over the performance. They are used not only for aerial gymnastics but become furniture or, as shown here, a blanket.
